National and International Ministries
The Kirk is happy to announce that we contribute to global mission on multiple fronts. Most recently we began contributing to Middelburg Care Village, a non-profit organization in Middelburg, South Africa that provides residence and care for orphans and vulnerable children up to 18 years of age. They provide 3 meals and 2 snacks a day and assist the children with homework. They work hard to teach life skills to the youth in addition to providing the necessary emotional support that so many of the young boys and girls need. The center functions only by means of government subsidy and various donations, and Kirk of Our Savior is happy to have become one of those donors. We are thankful for the opportunity to be a regular contributor to this wonderful effort at caring for God’s children, and we look forward to the day (later this year!) when we can communicate with and greet the children face to face via Skype.
But that’s not all! In 2017 the Kirk gave to Days to Girls International so that they could purchase fabric and material for their hygiene kits, and we had our very own sewing day during which we made pillowcase dresses that were sent to Africa. In December we participated in Operation Christmas Child (through Samaritan’s Purse) and sent Christmas boxes packed with supplies and toys for children all across the globe.
Other National and Additional International Mission Work
Kirk of Our Savior is proud to contribute annually to all four PCUSA Special Offerings: One Great Hour of Sharing, Pentecost, Peace & Global Witness, and Christmas Joy. These offerings help persons in need throughout our country and the world in many different ways. For instance, in 2017 alone 11 countries received aid and support from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance after violence and famine in South Sudan, flooding in Peru and Colombia, drought in Malawi and Kenya and the refugee crisis of Syria. And right here in our own country, 25 states received assistance in the wake of natural and other disasters like hurricanes and flooding.
All of the details for these offerings can be found on the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. Special Offering at http://specialofferings.pcusa.org/.
